The 48th edition of the WorldSkills Competition officially commenced on Tuesday in Shanghai. Running through September 27, the event features nearly 1,400 young professionals representing 68 nations and territories. This iteration of the biennial contest, often referred to as the Olympics of vocational skills, has established four historical benchmarks regarding the volume of participants, countries involved, total competitions, and newly introduced categories. A total of 64 distinct skill contests are scheduled across six sectors, featuring seven debut disciplines such as rail vehicle technology, drone systems, and software testing. China, which has consistently led the medal standings over the previous four events, is represented by a delegation of 71 competitors hailing from 21 different provinces.
