The Krabi Elephant Hospital in Thailand has announced the passing of Bua Sawan, an elephant that remained bedridden for over eight years. The animal died on September 6 following a long period of paralysis caused by a spinal cord injury sustained when she fell into an irrigation canal. The accident left all four of her legs immobile, requiring continuous medical attention and specialized care at the hospital facility. A veterinarian who worked with Bua Sawan for five years expressed condolences and shared memories of the elephant’s resilience during her treatment. Preliminary examinations suggest that the cause of death was organ failure, a complication related to her prolonged state of immobilization. Throughout her years of being bedridden, the hospital staff provided daily support to manage her condition until her health eventually declined.
