Residents in the Khao Mai Kaeo subdistrict of Prachin Buri have raised concerns after discovering a recurring iridescent, oil-like substance covering water in local rice paddies. The civic organization Prachin Khem Khaeng identified the contamination on October 16, 2026, prompting an official inspection by local administrative authorities and village leadership. Investigators observed dark, oily water within drainage ditches and agricultural plots spanning between Moo 1 and Moo 10. Accessing the affected site proved difficult, requiring passage through a eucalyptus forest known to be frequented by wild elephants from the nearby Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary. During the site visit, officials documented the presence of large elephant tracks while examining the polluted water. Villagers have expressed significant anxiety regarding the potential health risks posed by the substance and the long-term safety of their rice crops.
