Sabah’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, has indicated that the prize pool for the Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon may be raised in upcoming years. This initiative aims to entice a larger number of elite global athletes to participate in the renowned mountain race. As the event is currently integrated into the Merrell Skyrunner World Series, officials believe that enhancing financial incentives will solidify the competition's status as a premier destination for international runners. Speaking at the 33rd edition of the race in Kinabalu Park, Jafry emphasized that improving the rewards is a necessary step to maintain the event's competitive appeal on the global stage, ensuring it remains a top priority for professional mountain runners worldwide.
