The Turkish government intends to request legislative authorization to deploy military personnel to Saudi Arabia, according to an official from the ruling Justice and Development Party. This move follows the submission of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, a tripartite pact involving Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, to the national parliament for ratification. The agreement, signed in August, establishes a collective defense framework where an external attack on one nation is considered an aggression against all signatories. Initial deployments will focus on providing technical support for Saudi electronic warfare and air defense systems. The official emphasized that the Turkish troops sent under this arrangement will be restricted to defensive roles and will not participate in any offensive military operations. The formal request for deployment is expected to follow the successful legislative approval of the defense treaty itself.
