Didi Chuxing, the prominent Chinese ride-hailing company, intends to submit an application to conduct autonomous vehicle trials in Hong Kong within the current year. According to a government adviser, the initial testing phase will focus on urban environments, with the possibility of extending the pilot program to newly developed districts in the future. This development follows a recent delegation to the firm's Beijing headquarters, which included Mable Chan, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, along with several legislative members. Gary Zhang Xinyu, who serves on a specialized working group within the Transport Department, shared details regarding the upcoming application. The move signifies a step toward integrating self-driving technology into the city's transport infrastructure.
