A 61-year-old woman, Yang Chau-ki, has been ordered to spend three months in a psychiatric facility following her conviction for sedition at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts. The retiree was found guilty of posting inflammatory materials outside her Tin Shui Wai residence between March and November 2024. These items included a colonial-era flag and banners featuring slogans from the 2019 protests, alongside messages targeting the Communist Party and building security staff. During the proceedings, Yang stated that her actions were intended to voice grievances regarding a security guard rather than to incite public unrest. Medical reports presented to the court confirmed that the defendant suffers from schizophrenia and delusional disorder, leading the magistrate to issue the hospital order instead of a standard custodial sentence.
