Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, recently addressed the Lahore High Court Bar Association in Rawalpindi to clarify the roles of the judiciary. He emphasized that the Constitution explicitly delineates the powers and jurisdictions of both the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) and the Supreme Court, leaving no room for confusion. According to Tarar, the creation of the FCC through the 27th Constitutional Amendment is intended to centralize the interpretation of constitutional matters within a specialized body, thereby fostering consistency in legal rulings. The minister noted that recent constitutional amendments incorporate historical lessons, reinforcing the structure of Pakistan as a federation. By assigning the responsibility of constitutional interpretation to the newly established FCC, the government aims to streamline judicial processes and ensure that the distinct mandates of the two high-level courts remain clearly separated and functional.
