A municipal operation to dismantle a Communist Party of India (Marxist) book stall in Kolkata’s Jadavpur district was halted on Saturday. Officials from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation arrived with a bulldozer to remove the structure, which had been operational for four days as part of Durga Puja festivities. However, the demolition attempt was abandoned after local residents, students, and party activists gathered to protest the action. The incident occurred amidst ongoing tensions regarding the placement of political book stalls during the holiday season. Security personnel, including police and central forces, were on-site during the confrontation. This event marks the latest in a series of disputes involving the presence of Left-affiliated stalls in the city during the current Durga Puja celebrations.
