A ten-year-old cheetah named Gaurav has died while receiving medical care at Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park. Gaurav was part of the initial group of eight cheetahs imported from Namibia in September 2022. After being released into the wild in March 2023, the animal was retrieved on September 12 due to signs of lethargy and physical weakness. Despite receiving urgent supportive care and being moved to a quarantine facility for monitoring, the cheetah succumbed to his condition. Officials indicated that preliminary assessments suggest the animal suffered from a chronic underlying health issue. With this recent loss, only two of the original eight cheetahs from the first Namibian cohort remain at the park.
