Qatar has officially assumed the presidency of the Permanent Arab Committee on International Humanitarian Law, marking the first time a nation has held this leadership role since the body's inception in 2025. The election took place during the 166th ministerial session of the Arab League Council held in Cairo. Saeed bin Abdullah al-Suwaidi, who serves as the Undersecretary of Qatar's Ministry of Justice and leads the national committee on this subject, was selected for the position through a direct voting process involving representatives from Arab League member states. The establishment of this committee was originally proposed by Qatar and subsequently ratified by the Arab League Council during its 163rd ministerial meeting.
