Architectural photographer Darren Soh has called upon the Tampines Town Council and local Member of Parliament David Neo to reconsider plans to paint over the distinctive brick facades of HDB Blocks 497A-L on Tampines Street 45. These residential buildings are slated for repair and redecoration, with residents currently participating in a voting process to select one of three proposed colour schemes. The voting period commenced on August 29 and is scheduled to conclude on September 13. Mr. Soh argues that altering the brickwork would be an irreversible decision, potentially eradicating the unique character and historical essence of the estate. Conversely, the Tampines Town Council stated that the curated designs are intended to provide the neighbourhood with a "fresh and vibrant look" that harmonizes with its existing environment.
