Data released by Singapore's Ministry of Manpower indicates that 21 individuals died in workplace accidents between January and June 2026. This brings the annualised fatal injury rate to 1.1 per 100,000 employees. Vehicular accidents were identified as the primary cause of these deaths, responsible for nine incidents, four of which involved platform workers. While the number of major workplace injuries dropped to 314, marking a record low outside of the 2020 pandemic period, officials expressed significant concern regarding the rising death toll. Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash acknowledged the efforts made to improve safety standards but urged both staff and management to maintain high levels of vigilance to prevent further casualties. The government is currently evaluating the implementation of more stringent safety protocols to address these ongoing risks.
