The Literature Translation Institute of Korea has confirmed that several works by domestic writers, such as Nobel Prize winner Han Kang and novelist Hwang Sok-yong, are eligible for compensation following a legal settlement with the American AI firm Anthropic. The organization identified at least 21 English-language versions of books by Korean authors included in the list of materials utilized for training the Claude chatbot. Following this discovery, the institute has begun the process of informing the affected writers regarding their potential eligibility for financial restitution under the terms of the agreement. This development highlights ongoing concerns regarding the use of copyrighted literary content in the development of generative artificial intelligence systems.
