The Sri Lankan Cabinet has officially sanctioned a proposal to enter into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Thailand regarding labour cooperation. This initiative, which includes a supplementary agreement, aims to create a structured framework for the legal migration of Sri Lankan personnel to the Thai labour market. The primary objectives of these accords are to streamline recruitment processes, ensure transparency in deployment, and enhance the protection of workers' rights. Furthermore, the agreement incorporates specific safeguards designed to combat human trafficking and prevent the exploitation of employees. These developments follow recent bilateral negotiations between the two nations, although questions remain regarding how these labour arrangements will interact with current visa policies for Sri Lankan citizens traveling to Thailand.
