Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that elevated population density in Colombo remains a primary driver for the transmission of tuberculosis within the city. Addressing a parliamentary inquiry from MP Mujibur Rahuman, the Minister provided data showing 968 confirmed TB cases in 2025, reflecting a downward trend from the previous year. Historical figures indicate that infections fluctuated between 2019 and 2025, peaking at 1,130 cases in 2023 before experiencing a recent decrease. The Minister also noted earlier statistics for the broader Colombo District, highlighting the persistent public health challenge posed by the disease in densely populated urban environments.
