The Second Regional Urban Resilience Dialogue recently took place in Tashkent, organized by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, and the UNDP. Supported by the Japanese government, the event emphasized the necessity of integrating risk management into urban planning. Key developments included the expansion of the Urban Resilience Coalition from five to ten cities across Central Asia, incorporating new members from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Additionally, regional seismological institutions signed a memorandum to improve earthquake preparedness through enhanced scientific data sharing and coordination. Officials highlighted that these collaborative efforts aim to protect infrastructure and populations while aligning with global sustainability frameworks, such as the Sendai Framework and the Paris Agreement, to ensure safer urban environments against climate and disaster risks.
