Starting September 8, WhatsApp has officially discontinued compatibility for mobile devices operating on Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop. Users must now have at least Android 6.0 Marshmallow installed to continue accessing the messaging platform and its business counterpart. This update primarily impacts legacy hardware that can no longer receive software patches or OS upgrades from manufacturers. These older devices remain prevalent in various global markets, including parts of Africa, Southeast Asia, India, Brazil, and Pakistan. Owners of affected smartphones are advised to verify their current system version in their device settings. If a phone cannot be upgraded to the newer Android standard, it will no longer be able to run the application, potentially requiring users to switch to more modern hardware to maintain access to the service.
