During the 2026 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos awards, Philippine Education Secretary Sonny Angara recognized two public school teachers for their exceptional contributions to basic education. Dr. Emmanuel Guarde, an indigenous educator from Oriental Mindoro, was commended for integrating cultural heritage into the curriculum and improving infrastructure in remote areas. Meanwhile, Engr. Sheila Marie Amigo from Zamboanga Sibugay was honored for creating an innovative, hands-on science learning program that significantly boosted student performance. The ceremony also celebrated eight other civil servants, including professors, military personnel, and police officers. Each of the ten awardees received a cash prize of one million pesos, alongside a trophy and a medallion, in recognition of their dedication to nation-building.
