Representatives from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan recently gathered in Cadenabbia to examine methods for ensuring the long-term sustainability of regional rapprochement. The discussions emphasized the importance of fostering a shared regional identity and strengthening public support for integration. A central focus was the Fergana Peace Forum, an initiative proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to serve as a permanent platform for building trust and good-neighborly relations. Experts highlighted the need to transition from high-level political cooperation to deeper societal engagement, including youth mediation training and cross-border collaboration. The upcoming meeting in Khujand, a location symbolic of recent border settlements, will further advance these efforts. International organizations, including the UN and OSCE, are increasingly involved in supporting these regional peacebuilding processes, which have gained global recognition following a 2026 UN General Assembly resolution on the peaceful settlement of border disputes.
