Former Nominated Member of Parliament Calvin Cheng recently stated that Singapore's ongoing haze issues have negatively impacted the experience of international visitors. In a social media update, Cheng noted that several of his foreign guests, who were required to attend outdoor meetings and events, suffered from health complications such as respiratory inflammation and eye irritation. He expressed concern that these conditions have left a poor impression on first-time travelers to the city-state. Furthermore, Cheng called for greater transparency from the government regarding the implementation of the Transboundary Haze Act of 2014. This legislation was designed to penalize entities whose actions contribute to the haze affecting Singapore, and Cheng is seeking clarity on how authorities intend to enforce these legal provisions to address the recurring environmental problem.
