The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has formed a dedicated internal committee to implement more rigorous evaluation and authorization procedures for asset-freeze mandates. Deputy Minister of Law and Institutional Reform M Kulasegaran announced this development during a session in the Dewan Rakyat. This initiative follows data revealing that the MACC issued 1,336 asset-freeze orders throughout 2025, of which 481 were later revoked without any formal charges being filed. The new committee is tasked with examining applications submitted under Sections 44 and 44A of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. Furthermore, the commission is upgrading its internal systems to centralize the documentation and tracking of these legal orders to ensure greater oversight and procedural consistency.
