The Nobel Prize organization recently utilized its social media channels to feature a significant historical document: a handwritten letter from 1912 exchanged between Nobel laureates Rabindranath Tagore and Bertrand Russell. This rare artifact, currently housed within the Bertrand Russell Archives at McMaster University Library in Canada, serves as a testament to the intellectual connection between Eastern and Western philosophical traditions. Dated October 13, 1912, the letter documents Tagore’s reaction to Russell’s essay, "The Essence of Religion," published in the Hibbert Journal. In his correspondence, the Indian poet expressed how deeply the British philosopher’s work had impacted him. By sharing this archival material, the Nobel Prize has drawn renewed international interest to the profound dialogue that once occurred between these two influential literary and intellectual figures.
