A Senate committee focused on devolution has directed the federal government to implement provincial quotas for promotions into higher administrative grades. This decision follows findings that Balochistan is significantly underrepresented, holding only one federal secretary position out of 38 divisions. Led by Senator Zamir Hussain Ghumro, the panel also issued a two-week ultimatum regarding the management of oil and gas resources. The government must either transfer control of half the wellheads to provincial authorities or establish a profit-sharing model in accordance with Article 172(3) of the Constitution. Failure to present a viable plan within this timeframe could result in punitive actions against officials from the Petroleum Division. The committee emphasized that these measures are necessary to address ongoing violations of constitutional provisions regarding provincial job quotas and equitable resource distribution.
