The Greek embassy in Ankara has issued a formal protest regarding Turkey's establishment of two marine parks, arguing that these zones lack legal validity where they overlap with the Greek continental shelf. Athens contends that these boundaries infringe upon its sovereign rights in the Aegean Sea. Furthermore, the protest addresses Turkish opposition to Greek development plans involving tourism, logistics, and renewable energy infrastructure. In response, Turkish officials provided diplomatic notes reiterating their established stance on the matter. Greek diplomatic sources indicated that the government intends to bring these concerns to the attention of international and European partners, maintaining that existing treaties already define sovereignty in the region. The maritime decrees in question were authorized by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in mid-August and subsequently appeared in the Turkish Official Gazette.
