The Turkish government has commenced the transfer of 184 of its nationals currently held in Iraq due to suspected affiliations with the Islamic State. The initial group of detainees was transported from the Karkh Central Prison, located in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport, to Ankara. Authorities have not provided specific details regarding the identities or the exact number of individuals included in the first arrival. Among those identified for return is Savaş Yıldız, a suspect linked to the 2015 Ankara train station suicide bombing that resulted in 104 fatalities. Yıldız also faces allegations regarding attacks on political party offices in Adana and Mersin earlier that same year. The repatriation effort follows the verification of biographical data against existing Turkish records, marking a significant development in the handling of citizens previously detained abroad for extremist activities.
