Ace Barbers, a prosecution adviser for the House of Representatives, has requested that law enforcement and financial intelligence agencies investigate the possible involvement of illegal offshore gaming syndicates in political financing. The concern is that these criminal groups might use illicit funds to back candidates in the 2028 elections to secure future protection. This call for action follows warnings from a spokesperson for the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation about the potential for remnants of the POGO industry to influence the electoral process. Barbers urged the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to track financial trails and identify any political figures connected to these organizations. The objective is to establish solid legal cases against those attempting to use illegal gambling money to interfere with national governance.
