Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) remains paralyzed by an ongoing leadership dispute. Chairman Dr. Saran Boonbaichaiyapruk recently secured a procedural victory from the Supreme Administrative Court, allowing his legal challenge against a selection committee ruling to proceed. However, the court did not reinstate his powers or suspend the committee's decision, which found him ineligible due to continued medical employment after his appointment. While Dr. Saran continues to call meetings, three commissioners argue he lacks the legal authority to preside, leading to the cancellation or postponement of eight consecutive sessions. The government has also initiated steps to remove him from his post. This institutional deadlock has stalled critical regulatory oversight of the nation's telecommunications and broadcasting sectors, which are currently navigating significant technological shifts and increased international competition.
