In Kazakhstan, family members are not automatically liable for the financial debts of a deceased relative. According to the Ministry of Justice and the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, the responsibility to settle outstanding loans only transfers to individuals who formally accept an inheritance. Even in such cases, the legal obligation to repay these debts is strictly capped at the total value of the assets inherited. If a deceased person leaves behind no property or estate, their relatives are under no legal requirement to cover the remaining loan balance. This framework ensures that heirs do not become personally responsible for the deceased's financial liabilities beyond the scope of the assets they receive through the inheritance process.
