Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has officially prohibited government employees from utilizing the navigation application Waze. This directive, announced by the Prime Minister's Office on October 21, stems from concerns regarding the potential misuse of sensitive information and user data by the Israeli government. Although Waze was acquired by Google in 2013, the Malaysian administration maintains that the platform remains subject to Israeli jurisdiction due to its origins. In response, a Waze spokesperson denied these allegations, asserting that the company adheres to rigorous global privacy standards and data protection regulations. Beyond the mandate for civil servants, the Prime Minister has also advised the general public to discontinue their use of the application and transition to alternative navigation services developed locally.
