Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced that the Malaysian government intends to enhance collaboration between multiple ministries and law enforcement agencies to improve e-commerce regulation. The initiative aims to address current loopholes in the digital marketplace, specifically regarding the unauthorized sale of prohibited products. Fahmi highlighted that the lack of a formal licensing requirement for e-commerce platforms remains a significant regulatory challenge that needs to be addressed. While the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has already initiated discussions with major industry players, the government is committed to a multi-agency approach to ensure better oversight of the online retail ecosystem. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to secure the digital economy and protect consumers from illicit trade activities.
