A report from the maritime security company Ambrey indicates that at least 45 commercial ships have been targeted in the Black Sea over the last year in regions previously considered safe. This surge in incidents, which contrasts with the lack of activity in these zones during the prior twelve-month period, is attributed to strikes occurring further away from the Ukrainian and Russian coastlines. Data shows that over 70 percent of this year's recorded attacks happened after July 1. These incidents, often involving Ukrainian strikes on Russian-linked vessels, have frequently taken place near Turkey's northern coast and in international waters south of Sochi and Novorossiysk. Consequently, the London-based Joint War Committee has officially designated the Black Sea as a high-risk area for maritime insurance purposes, forcing industry stakeholders to re-evaluate their regional risk assessments.
