The government of Maharashtra has officially designated drought conditions in 265 out of 358 talukas, representing approximately 75% of the state's administrative regions. This decision follows a significant rainfall deficit during the recent southwest monsoon. By meeting the 'trigger-1' criteria—defined as a dry spell lasting at least 21 days—the state has activated a comprehensive relief package. This initiative includes 12 specific measures, such as the restructuring of agricultural loans, land revenue waivers, electricity bill concessions for farmers, and the deployment of water tankers to address shortages. The affected areas span 32 districts, necessitating an immediate evaluation of crop losses to facilitate the distribution of aid to impacted rural communities.
