Nepal is observing a national memorial day today to honor individuals identified as Gen Z martyrs. The government officially designated September 8 as a public holiday to commemorate the 19 people who lost their lives during police gunfire at a protest in Kathmandu. To mark the occasion, the Gen Z Martyrs’ Welfare Society held a formal event at the former Parliament building located in New Baneshwor. Several high-ranking government officials attended the ceremony, including Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Law Minister Sobita Gautam, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal. Other cabinet members, such as Health Minister Nisha Mehta, Science and Innovation Minister Mahabir Pun, and Agriculture Minister Gita Chaudhary, were also present to pay their respects alongside various members of parliament.
