Sri Lankan Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa recently addressed a demonstration held by job seekers at the Polduwa junction. These individuals, who applied for infrastructure positions in Israel, expressed frustration over the lack of progress in their recruitment process. Premadasa accused a so-called job mafia of undermining the aspirations of thousands of citizens seeking work abroad. He highlighted that despite applicants completing necessary eligibility screenings and submitting required police documentation, no placements have been finalized in the infrastructure sector for two years. According to the opposition leader, 560 people are currently awaiting placement, while an additional 1,200 remain within the lottery system. Premadasa characterized the state-managed foreign employment initiatives as inefficient and criticized the government for failing to facilitate these overseas opportunities effectively, contrasting the slow pace of official programs with private sector alternatives.
