Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform, stated that citizens are calling for the enactment of a political financing law before the next general election. This feedback emerged from public consultation sessions conducted by the Legal Affairs Division. Speaking at the Political Financing Convention 2026, Azalina emphasized that while there is significant public support for these regulations, the government must secure consensus from political parties before presenting the bill to Parliament. Obtaining this cooperation is considered a critical step to ensure the legislative process proceeds without unnecessary obstacles or delays. The proposed law aims to provide a formal regulatory framework for how political organizations manage and receive their funding.
