Former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has formally engaged legal counsel to pursue a defamation lawsuit against Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. This decision follows a press conference held by Ramanan, during which he leveled accusations of corruption against Rafizi. According to a statement released by Rafizi, his legal team has reviewed the relevant video footage and transcripts, concluding that the remarks made by the PKR vice-president infringe upon Malaysian defamation statutes. This legal escalation stems from a prior dispute in which Rafizi had publicly identified Ramanan as the parliamentarian allegedly linked to a RM9.5 million bribery case involving corporate entities. Rafizi maintains that the recent claims made against him are unfounded and warrant judicial intervention to address the alleged damage to his reputation.
