Approximately 2,000 individuals displaced by the Bhotekoshi flooding are currently residing in temporary shelters across four locations in Bidur Municipality-5, Nuwakot. These residents, who have been displaced for six weeks, are now encountering significant health risks due to the proliferation of hazardous, illicitly produced alcohol within their settlements. Local authorities report that this homemade liquor is being manufactured using unsafe ingredients. In response to the growing danger, the Nuwakot District Police have initiated a series of enforcement operations to curb the distribution of these harmful substances. During a recent raid, law enforcement officials successfully confiscated around 1,000 litres of illegal alcohol. Deputy Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hawari confirmed that police efforts have intensified to protect the displaced population from the dangers associated with the consumption of these toxic products.
