A tragic stampede occurred on Saturday in Kolkata, West Bengal, during the Durga Puja festival, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 individuals. The incident took place outside a religious pavilion as heavy rainfall prompted a large crowd to surge forward. According to local authorities, the victims included a seven-year-old child, and approximately 25 other people sustained injuries during the chaos. A senior police official indicated that an announcement made amidst the rain triggered a commotion, causing the waiting crowd to push and fall, which led to the fatal crush. Emergency services transported the injured to the Calcutta Medical College, where families gathered to identify their relatives. Officials have confirmed that six of the deceased have been identified thus far as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the event continue.
