Mark Cheung Kai-yuen, a social worker in Hong Kong, has been named a finalist for the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards for his efforts to improve dental service accessibility. Alongside dentist Dr. Ho Kwun-yin, Cheung established the social enterprise Smile Again, which focuses on providing specialized care for cancer survivors, individuals with disabilities, and children with special needs. The initiative addresses common barriers to treatment by offering wheelchair-accessible clinic environments and extended appointment times. Furthermore, the practice utilizes customized communication techniques to better support patients who may struggle in traditional dental settings. By adapting both the physical infrastructure and the delivery of clinical services, the project aims to ensure that marginalized populations receive necessary oral health support in a comfortable and inclusive manner.
