This strategic shift follows the country's successful attainment of its target to host 300,000 foreign students, a milestone reached ahead of the projected timeline. Official figures indicate that the number of international students in South Korea reached 307,464 in 2026, representing a significant increase of nearly 70 percent from the previous count of 182,000. Under the new framework, the government aims to improve student protections while simultaneously creating better pathways for graduates to secure employment and establish long-term residency within the nation.
