South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back has publicly encouraged the resumption of diplomatic negotiations between the United States and North Korea. Emphasizing the necessity of a dual-track approach, Ahn stated that Seoul remains committed to supporting these diplomatic efforts through robust military readiness and a strong deterrence posture. The minister expressed his desire for a potential follow-up meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, suggesting that such high-level interactions are vital for both regional stability on the Korean Peninsula and broader international security. Furthermore, Ahn indicated that progress in Washington-Pyongyang relations is a critical prerequisite for facilitating the eventual restart of direct inter-Korean dialogue, which remains a long-term objective for the South Korean government.
