The Department of Meteorology in Sri Lanka has released a formal warning regarding intense lightning activity affecting the Eastern and Uva provinces, alongside the Polonnaruwa District. This alert remains active until 1:30 a.m. on October 25. Authorities anticipate thundershowers coupled with powerful localized wind gusts. To ensure safety, the public is strongly encouraged to remain indoors and steer clear of open spaces like tea estates, rice paddies, or bodies of water. Furthermore, residents should avoid using wired electronic devices and stay away from open-air transport such as tractors or bicycles. Officials also advised citizens to remain vigilant regarding potential hazards like downed power lines or fallen trees and to reach out to local disaster management teams if necessary.
