The Supreme Court of India has instructed the Calcutta High Court to promptly address a petition filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the removal of a billboard at party leader Abhishek Banerjee’s office. The TMC claims the Kolkata Municipal Corporation dismantled the sign without prior notice, while other businesses in the same building remain unaffected. Although the Supreme Court declined to overturn an August 28 High Court ruling that denied interim relief, it emphasized that the High Court should resolve the matter quickly. The High Court had previously stated that ordering the immediate restoration of the sign would be premature at an interim stage. The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, clarified that the High Court's earlier observations were tentative and encouraged all parties to present their arguments fully during the upcoming proceedings.
