Thai officials are intentionally flooding riverside communities in Ayutthaya province to prevent major inundation in Bangkok. This recurring strategy forces residents in northern areas to endure significant hardship, as homes remain submerged for extended periods during the monsoon season. Local inhabitants, such as those in the village of Kamonchanok Sathaphonamonwut, report that their elevated dwellings are no longer sufficient to escape the rising water levels. Many families are forced to sleep on makeshift platforms and face severe sanitation challenges as their properties remain waterlogged. While the government prioritizes the protection of the capital and key commercial hubs, residents in Ayutthaya express frustration over being neglected by flood management policies. This annual cycle of deliberate flooding has led some villagers to relocate permanently, while others continue to struggle with the increasing frequency and intensity of the seasonal deluge.
