The Turkish Medical Association has issued a formal warning regarding the extended duration of court hearings in the corruption trial involving Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. According to a scientific assessment submitted to the Istanbul 33rd High Criminal Court, sessions lasting up to 15 hours may violate the defendants' right to a fair trial and could be classified as cruel or inhuman treatment. The association highlighted that hearings held at the Marmara Prison complex frequently continued until after midnight, with some concluding as late as 1:30 a.m. These demanding schedules, coupled with the significant daily travel requirements for legal counsel, prompted the medical group to intervene. The assessment, signed by TTB Central Council Secretary General Ali Karakoç, was filed by the defense team to challenge the current judicial proceedings' impact on the physical and mental well-being of those involved.
