Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed a decree authorizing the 30-year privatization of key national transport infrastructure. The plan encompasses Istanbul's two state-operated Bosporus bridges, eight highways, and two beltways. While the government will retain ownership of these assets, private companies will take over their operations and collect toll revenues. According to the official decree, the Privatization Administration must finalize the transactions by December 31, 2031. The process may involve leasing, revenue-sharing, or transferring operating rights, either individually or in groups. The privatization package covers major routes, including the European and Anatolian highway networks, alongside several regional expressways connecting cities such as Izmir, Adana, and Gaziantep.
