The Gurkha Nepali Society Medway held a memorial service in Gillingham, UK, on September 6, 2026, to honor victims of recent floods and landslides in Nepal. Organizers replaced a planned cultural event with this assembly to express solidarity and raise funds for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The ceremony included prayers, a moment of silence, and the lighting of lamps. Local British officials and community leaders attended, while several members of Parliament sent messages of support. Discussions focused on potential reconstruction assistance, including the deployment of British Army Gurkha engineers to affected regions. Participants also highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on Nepal, calling for greater international accountability. A collection was gathered to support recovery efforts, complementing the five million pounds in emergency aid previously pledged by the British government.
