Nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines from the USS Abraham Lincoln recently concluded a five-day visit to Pattaya, Thailand, following a lengthy 286-day deployment. The arrival of the crew provided a significant financial stimulus to local businesses during the quiet low season. Beyond traditional nightlife venues, the servicemen frequented retail shops, restaurants, and service providers, leading to a notable surge in sales for various local merchants. Many residents and service workers highlighted the polite behavior of the visitors, noting instances of exceptional generosity through substantial tips for taxi drivers and delivery personnel. Local officials and business owners observed that the sailors sought out everyday comforts, such as shopping for clothing and personal care, rather than focusing solely on entertainment. This brief port call injected both capital and a sense of optimism into the local economy after a challenging period for the tourism sector.
