The Argentine government has officially lodged a criminal complaint against several international energy corporations for conducting unauthorized hydrocarbon exploration near the Falkland Islands, referred to as the Islas Malvinas by Buenos Aires. Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and Treasury Attorney General Sebastian Amerio filed the legal challenge in federal court, naming companies including Navitas Petroleum, JHI Associates, and Eco Atlantic Oil and Gas. The litigation extends to the firms' shareholders, managers, and directors, alleging illegal extraction activities within the North Malvinas Basin. According to the office of President Javier Milei, this move represents a definitive step toward defending the nation's natural resources and asserting its territorial sovereignty over the disputed region. The government's action underscores its ongoing commitment to challenging British-licensed drilling operations in the area.
